Heritage Impact Assessment of Kau Yan Church

Kau Yan Church, situated on High Street in Sheung Wan, is a local Christian Church with over 160 years of history. The Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) prepared by the Community Project Workshop for Kau Yan Church from March to December 2010 included a baseline study and a detailed report outlining the architectural and historical significance of the complex. Other than identifying the Church’s close integration with the local community with the community hall, kindergarten and primary school, the report also identifies the unique architecture such as shanghai plaster render, turreted spire bell tower, stained glass windows and the Chinese tile roof. The report highlights the methodology of conservation intervention for material repair and new addition.
