Tai O is the only remaining intact fishing village in Hong Kong. Almost one-third of the current Tai O residents are elderly and are living in dilapidated stilt houses. These homes become vulnerable to floods, typhoons, landslides and other weather conditions and most of these elderly residents cannot afford costs for repair and maintenance of these stilt houses. CPW joined Habitat for Humanity China (HFH China) to for a one-day session to help the elderly to re-build their stilt houses in Tai O in May 2011. The objective of the project is to engage students in repairing old stilt houses for the elderly and to appreciate the heritage values of Tai O fishing village. Through this event, students gained experiential learning opportunity and were able to work with a charity organization, community stakeholders and working professionals.
